AMP Fitness and Beech Brook are teaming up this holiday season to make a difference in the lives of Northeast Ohio’s most vulnerable children and families.
From now until the end of the year, AMP Fitness will hold a community wide Lose Big & Give Big food drive to benefit the foster care program at Beech Brook, a Pepper Pike-based behavioral health agency serving approximately 20,000 children and families in Northeast Ohio. Non-perishable food and cash donations will be accepted at AMP Fitness, located at 23436 Commerce Park in Beachwood, Mondays through Fridays from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Online donations can also be made at www.beechbrook.org/home/donations.
The partnership between AMP Fitness and Beech Brook is a personal one for AMP Fitness owner Larry Tedor.
“I wanted to find an organization to support that would be personal to me,” Tedor said “I was raised by a single parent, but at the age of 10 I went into foster care because my mother was no longer able to care for me. I know first-hand what it means to be hungry and worried about when your next meal will be. When I was a young child I have clear memories of waiting in line with my mother at churches and shelters to get our bag of groceries. I know the struggles that come along with living in foster care, and Beech Brook, located right here in our neighborhood, does so much for the foster children in their program.
“All children deserve to have people show them love and compassion, to stand in their corner and give them a voice because they are our future and need to be nurtured.”
The holiday season is an ideal time for an event like this, said Debra Rex, President and CEO of Beech Brook.
“We are so grateful to AMP Fitness for choosing to support our foster families this holiday season,” Rex said. “For children who have been removed from their birth families and, too often, moved from place to place, the holiday season can be difficult so it’s especially meaningful to know that there are people who remember and care about them.”
In addition to supporting Beech Brook, AMP Fitness is looking to help participants lose weight during the food drive by offering special 30-minute small-group workouts. For a one-time registration fee of $40, which goes directly to Beech Brook, participants are eligible to join in a workout. After the registration fee, each workout only requires a donation of $5 or four non-perishable food items.
“I am always thinking of ways to introduce more people to AMP Fitness and show them that we are a place that sincerely cares about them, their fitness goals and the community,” Tedor said. “Having a food drive that involves the entire community gives them the opportunity to visit AMP Fitness and show them how we can help them on a larger scale. I believe in order to make your community succeed, you need to support each other, and this is one way that we can do that.”
The special workouts will be held on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings, and on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Appointments are required and the days and times are subject to change. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, call AMP Fitness at 216.236.3674.
