AMP Fitness will go “Bonkers for Burpees” this summer to help support the Special Olympics of Ohio.
At an Olympic-themed event on Aug. 7, AMP owner and certified personal trainer Larry Tedor will attempt to add his name to the Guinness Book of World Records for performing the most burpees in a one-minute time period. Larry will be looking to break Lee Ryan’s world record of 46 burpees, performing each burpee according to the strict Guinness World Records guidelines.
In addition to the main event, the day will feature health-related activities and games and serve as a fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Ohio, which provides year-round sports training and competition opportunities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The state chapter has approximately 200 member organizations and more than 23,000 athletes who are in training and competition.
“Our family has been effected by Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder and learning differences, so partnering with the Special Olympics is a natural fit.” – Larry Tedor, AMP Fitness Owner
“We are always looking for opportunities to give back to the community,” said Tedor, who opened AMP Fitness in 2009. “Our family has been effected by Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder and learning differences, so partnering with the Special Olympics is a natural fit. This started out as an Olympic-themed customer appreciation day, but decided we wanted to make it bigger so that we could support a great cause.”
In keeping with the Olympic theme, sponsorship opportunities are available at three levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold – with recognition on AMP’s website and social media pages, signage at the event and sponsors’ logos on event T-shirts all available, depending on the sponsorship level.
Financial donations, either in a set amount or on a per-burpee basis, will also be accepted, with 100 percent of the money raised going to the Special Olympics of Ohio.
“On behalf of everyone at Special Olympics Ohio, Greater Cleveland, I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank AMP Fitness and the Tedor Family for their tremendous support of our program,” said spokesman Jeff Vermillion. “The training and competition opportunities for our 4,000 athletes in the Greater Cleveland area would not be possible without the continuous support of local businesses, partners and friends of Special Olympics.”
