At AMP Fitness, we put a spin on personal training and take it to the next level with the use of MyZone, a heart rate and calorie based monitoring system.
The MyZone system is the core of what our zone coaching is about, and is one of the keys to guaranteeing twice the results in half the time by combining cardiac telemetry with online accountability and feedback.
The data collected from MyZone enables our coaches to communicate with each client by rewarding effort, while providing guidance and motivation to help each individual achieve their fitness goals.
In the following testimonial, courtesy of MyZone.org, Amanda Rogers of Pakenham, Australia, talks about how MyZone helped her not only lose 50 kilograms (about 110 pounds), but also identified a potentially life-threatening condition.
Amanda has five children under the age of 10, including two-and-half-year-old twins. As well as looking after her children and her home, Amanda also works part-time as a waitress. The 32-year-old has been on a weight loss program for five years, but hit a wall a few months ago when the scales refused to budge.
Amanda approached a personal trainer at her local gym, Voyage Fitness in Pakenham, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia, for advice. The trainer suggested she try MyZone, giving her a free belt to try with the option of returning or buying the belt after the trial.
“As soon as I started wearing the belt it became obvious that even though I was going to the gym every day, I wasn’t working anywhere near hard enough to achieve my goals. I began to push myself to earn more MEPs and burn more calories in each workout. I couldn’t wait to see my workout summery at the end of each session,” Amanda said.
Amanda’s typical program consisted of weights and cardiovascular activity. Although she enjoyed exercising, Amanda would often feel faint and dizzy on her way home from the gym. Now, to boost her exercise even further, Amanda decided to add some classes to her routine.
“I started with Spartan circuit. I was working hard and my effort level soon shot to 100 percent with a heart rate of 247 bpm. The trainer couldn’t believe my heart rate was that high and that I was still able to talk, breathe and continue to work out. I didn’t feel unwell, but the trainer urged me to go to the doctors right away,” Amanda said.
Amanda followed the advice and after visiting her GP, who referred her to a cardiologist and an electrophysiology specialist, she was diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia, an abnormal heart rhythm, which is often characterized by a fast heartbeat.
“I was immediately given medication to normalize my heart rate and stop the palpitations, but this didn’t work so I had to have surgery on my heart to correct the condition,” Amanda explained.
Now, just four weeks after the three-and-a-half-hour operation, Amanda is back in the gym and taking part in GymStick and boxing classes, as well as working out with weights and doing cardiovascular exercise.
“I’m sitting about 80 percent on MyZone without any palpitations or a racing heart. I wear my MyZone belt and watch not only at the gym but also on walks and bike rides with the kids, just to check on my heart rate. I aim for four workouts a week and am thrilled when I receive my emails congratulating me for reaching the recommended level of activity for the week, which is usually just after two workouts.
“Better still, I now feel wonderful after my workouts, instead of faint and dizzy. Thanks MyZone!”
