Here I am — a certified personal trainer!
Eight months ago, when I began this journey by enrolling at the National Personal Training Institute, I had no idea just how many ups and downs I would encounter along the way. I’ve encountered everything from excitement, exhaustion, sheer panic and, of course, the age old question of “what have I gotten myself into?”
Well, my friends, let me answer that question for you: I have gotten myself into what I consider the most interesting, challenging and personally rewarding career I possibly could have chosen. My experience in the program has proven that I am capable of a whole lot more than I ever gave myself credit for. I pushed myself almost to the breaking point but I would not accept anything less than my personal best and that is exactly what I got — my best. That’s all I can ask for and there’s no better feeling than walking away with a certificate in my hand that I know was earned with a whole lot of blood, sweat and tears.

I gave every aspect of that program 100 percent and, because of that, I am confident that I am going to continue that pattern with my clients. Words cannot express how excited I am to take my passion for health and fitness into the field to help my clients find that same passion. When they look in the mirror, pick up that heavy weight or run their fastest mile, they will have that same feeling I had when I walked out of that classroom for the last time: sheer pride.
As their trainer there will be no better reward than seeing a smile on their face. That is truly why I made this choice; I just can’t imagine any better feeling than seeing that smile.
So what’s been happening at AMP Fitness? The best clients and trainers ever, that’s what! I can honestly say that without my experience at AMP I wouldn’t have been so successful with this journey. Larry Tedor, Marie Mesher and Kurt Zevnik are phenomenal trainers with amazing teaching and motivation skills; I say this both from a client as well as a student perspective. They have helped me to learn so much about every aspect of working with clients in a training setting.
Also on that list of “what have I learned” are things such as what exercises to pair together to achieve different goals, safety considerations for certain exercises and, most importantly, I learned how to walk into that gym and help people enjoy their fitness journey.
I can’t end this diary entry without mentioning the most exciting and satisfying experience during my internship at AMP Fitness.

I had the opportunity to train my longtime mentors, friends and past employers Cindy and William Jackson. Cindy and William have been my inspiration since day one, and watching them work so hard toward their own fitness goals while managing busy life styles has always had me in awe of them. They are truly amazing and driven people; to have the opportunity to try out my new skills with them was just the most amazing feeling of truly coming full circle. This is where it all began for me, they believed in me and encouraged me every step of the way, and I will be forever grateful to them for making me believe I can do this.
While this part of my journey has come to a close, I’m excited to see what’s around the next bend. A huge thank you to everybody at AMP Fitness, trainers and clients alike, and to all of my friends and family who took this journey with me and supported me along the way. I hope to see everybody at AMP Fitness in the near future!
